The South African tour de force known as Die Antwoord looked ready to steal the show from the likes of acronymic headliners, M.I.A. and N.E.R.D., before unforeseen circumstances brought HARD’s impending event to a halt. Luckily, every cloud has a silver lining as the duo will be bringing the Zef to the El Rey this Saturday, July 17th alongside Isreali dubstep phenom, Borgore. Tickets are available HERE and I have a feeling this will sell out quickly and this venue will be a perfect place for both acts to showcase their unique live shows to a salivating crowd hungry for some noise. The Los Angeles based soul revivalists known as Fitz and The Tantrums have been making noise throughout Los Angeles for some time now, but after a packed residency at legendary venue Spaceland and signing a deal with label du jour, Dangerbird Records, they look poised to take their feel good funk all across the country. This track and video in particular does a great job of showcasing the sound, style, and overall smoothness that has had crowds swooning for the last year or so.

New Balance held their Sonic Collection West Coast Launch party at sneaker boutique Conveyor in Fred Segal in Santa Monica last week.  A special wall was built for the party with a built in theremin, a special antenna-like electronic musical instrument which uses the proximity of a hand to alter the pitch and volume of a pure sine wave.   The theremin added some extra fun and interactive “sonic” component as consumers approached the product shelf.  Aside from the special wall build out and the brand new Sonic Collection for sale, guests enjoyed free appetizers, cocktails, and music from a finely mustachioed DJ which was complemented by the crazy sine waves produced by partygoers dancing by the Sonic wall.  Next time New Balance comes to your neighborhood with an instore party, it should not be missed!

Electric Daisy Carnival is the two-day electronic festival held in Los Angeles, CA that has become the largest gathering of electronic music fans in North America. With the LA Coliseum as its backdrop and crowds upward of 100,000 people, the event is truly an overload of the senses. This year’s headliners such as Deadmau5, Armin Van Buuren, Groove Armada, Moby, Swedish House Mafia, and MSTRKRFT will play amongst high level production and a backdrop filled with Ferris wheels and a carnival midway of epic proportions.  This year should be one for the books, so don’t get left out! About Patrick Martinez
Since the vivid days of Patrick’s childhood he was drawing or scribbling on something. In his teenage years circa early 90’s, he was introduced to Hip Hop culture and exclusively to one of its elements, graffiti. Graffiti remains a vital influence in his work. Hip Hop has influenced his art ever since he understood what it was about, movies like “Wild Style” and “Style Wars” turned him onto the Hip Hop movement in his earlier days. In 1994 he attended Pasadena High School Visual Arts and Design Academy where he learned and practiced his image making skills.

Patrick graduated high school and moved on to Pasadena City College. Patrick spent three years at PCC experimenting, developing his artistic skills and trying to find a hint of himself at the same time. He kept a steady career doing illustrations and design work mainly for underground and mainstream record labels that catered to the Hip Hop community. He art directed for Concentrated Entertainment for two years as well as other projects that came to him from other companies like Stones Throw and Seditious Beats (now Divine Forces). In 2001 he was ready to take on the next stage of art discipline. This led him to apply to Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where he received a bachelor of fine arts in illustration.

Patrick focuses on the phenomenology of his surroundings. He brings sublime beauty to things that aren’t thought of as conventionally beautiful. He uses subject matter such as everyday people that aren’t usually painted into the limelight and elements of the city that would be thought of as objects we take for granted. He uses these objects as communicative mediums. Patrick works with intellect and intuition in creating pieces of art that reflect and document situations that are ever present around him. Vitality and rhythm are the essence and energy in his artwork.

Los Angeles based artist Patrick Martinez takes you through his creative process from sketch to completed work with this time lapsed video.  Three weeks is compressed into four minutes and the soundtrack is provided by Jay Electronica.

Martinez is currently working on a new body of work that is inspired by his thoughts, ideas and experiences which are fueled by the city of Los Angeles. The pop up shop will feature exclusive Young & Reckless garments not available in any stores such as cardigans, military jackets, track jackets, flannels and the Young & Reckless x Diamond Supply Co. tee in all black.  To celebrate the opening of the pop up shop, Young & Reckless threw a launch party at the store that was hosted by Nick Diamond and the whole cast of the Fantasy Factory including Drama, Rob Dyrdek, and more. etnies owner Pierre Andre Giving Out New etnies Shoes to Skid Row residents in LA

It’s always nice to see companies lending a hand to the less fortunate especially during these extra tough economic times which have led to the rise of homeless people in L.A.  Today, etnies owner, Pierre Andre and his etnies crew teamed up with the Los Angeles Mission to break through some of the doom and gloom, and provided more than 2,000 Skid Row residents with a hot meal and a brand new pair of etnies shoes.  Over the last decade, etnies has flowed more than 25,000 pairs of shoes to homeless people living in Los Angeles!

“In these tough economic times, there is more reason than ever to help those in need and give back to the causes that touch your heart – for me this is the Los Angeles Mission,” said etnies owner Pierre Andre Senizergues.  “For over 10 years my team and I have donated thousands of shoes to the homeless on Skid Row and this year will be no different.  Not only because the need will be greater, but because it is this small contribution that can make a difference in someone’s life.”
