The Imaginary Foundation is a think tank from Switzerland that does experimental research on new ways of thinking and the power of the imagination. They hold dear a belief in human potential and seek progress in all directions. The small clandestine team is headed up by the mysterious “Director,” a 70-something uber intellectual whose father founded the Dadaist movement. Avoiding direct publicity, the team has sought streetwear as an unlikely vehicle for bringing their ideas beyond the academic realm and into popular culture.

Man, I dig these kinds of graphics. Is it hitting you yet? Wait, is the Imaginary Foundation real or imaginary? Oh, whoa. What is reality?

If you’re in the West LA/Santa Monica area… Even though 9Star is a mega skate/surf/snow shop that opened a block from my old skate shop sponsor Hot Rod, they do have a perfect mini I skate sometimes, and a set of stairs you can skate inside the store. Can’t hate, they are doing their thing. And it’s definitely worth your time to see Tony Tave and Darrell Stanton skate, and maybe Mike V will rip the ramp (pretty much guaranteed) then punch something. I’ve seen enough demos to know he usually loses his temper at some point, and that’s usually pretty exciting. Then he’s totally cool to kids. It’s an odd dynamic, no doubt. Mike’s one of a kind.

Two Element posts in one day. Hello.

If you’re in the OC and you’re not too caught up in G-Shock’s US Open of Surfing at Huntington Pier (which is mostly watching dudes sit and wait for waves… kinda like watching Wimbledon if they didn’t have ball boys… but on the bright side the regrettable tattoos and thongs provide endless entertainment) head over the The Camp in Costa Mesa. (Also funny, I think this place is also called “The Anti-Mall.” Wait, that’s The Lab across from The Camp. But a counter-culture/punk mall? Oh OC…) But enough poking parentheticals, here’s the gist:

And on August 3rd,Tom’s Shoes, Element, and Active join together for GIVE: a creative collaboration that will bring together some of Element’s top artists and Advocates including Brooke Reidt, Don Pendleton, Beck Hickey, and Todd Francis to customize Tom’s Shoes for customers. Or, purchase a pair and customize them yourself. All supplies will be provided.

Each Element artist will also be creating art pieces to be auctioned live at the event. A portion of auction proceeds will benefit Friends of Tom’s, a non-profit organization. Since 2006 Tom’s has given away over 68,000 pairs of shoes to children in need around the world and plans to give an estimated 200,000 pairs of shoes over the next year. For every pair you purchase, Tom’s will give a pair of shoes to a child in need.
One for One.

Musical Performances and DJs, with drinks from Sake2Me, Red Bull, Nalu’s, and Sambazon.

The Camp
2937 Bristol St. Costa Mesa, CA 92626.
