Hello my name is…
Michelle McDevitt.

I was raised in…
San Francisco.

The reason that you’re reading about me is…
I’m the President and Co-Founder of Audible Treats, an entertainment marketing and publicity firm located in New York. We’re best known for coming up with creative ideas to publicize and market a select roster of amazing artists and brands, both established and up-and-coming. We’ve helped propel the careers of everyone from T-Pain to Black Milk, from Nelly to Hiero, from K’naan to J*Davey, from Slightly Stoopid to Brit indie pop band Deluka.

Right now I’m working on…
Spearheading 12 different campaigns, optimizing clients’ social networking profiles, leading brainstorming sessions with the rest of my team, perfecting my strawberry rhubarb pie recipe, teaching my dog Mochi new tricks, and resuscitating my water-logged iPhone.

But I’d rather be…
Nope, this is my dream job. The only other job I could see myself doing would be writing travel guide books for The Lonely Planet.

My most prized possessions are…
My Macbook Air, my Canon Elph, my music collection, my Havianas, and my elastic hairband.

But I’d give it all away for…
My friends and family, which includes my pooch, Mochi.

The first thing I do in the morning is…
Hit the snooze button.

The last thing I do at night is…
Kiss my husband Gavin and Mochi goodnight. My boys!

My momma always said…
Be diplomatic.

I love it when people…
Take care of each other and introduce me to new kinds of candy.

I hate it when people…
Forget to check their egos at the door.

If you ever see me walking down the street…
Say hi! I love running into friends on the street.

My most notable run-in with the law…
Involves me being really, really dumb on the corner of Houston and Orchard.

If I had to say sorry it would be because…
I offended you. I can have a crass sense of humor.

I get real aggro when…
Drivers don’t respect pedestrians or cyclists. I’ll knock knock on your car to let you know that shit ain’t coo.

The last time I swore I’d never drink was after a night of…
Drinking too much champagne at a friend’s wedding in Mexico. I slept 3 hours and the off to the airport it was with barf bag in hand. The bubbles, they get me every time!

Future projects and plans…
A new online marketing joint venture with Primary Wave Music Publishing (name is still TBD), more CMJ and SXSW showcases, expanding our roster of services and clients, expanding Audible Treats staff, and taking more vacations. You only live once. I’d also like to improve my Japanese and learn Spanish.

And before I leave I’d like to give a shout out to…
Elosi, whom I’ve known for years. Thanks for always holding down my clients, luv ya. Also, shout out to anyone who’s ever worked with us, worked with our amazing roster, or recommended us to your friends. Game recognize game.

Hello my name is…
Colin Munroe.

I was raised in…
North Gower, Ontario Canada. That’s out in the country where I spent my early years. After that, I grew up in a suburb outside of Ottawa, Canada.

The reason that you’re reading about me is…
I make music and some people must think is worth listening to. The mixtape I did seems to be getting some attention. You can download it here. www.onsmash.com/unsunghero.

Right now I’m working on…
Going back into the studio to make some tweaks to my official record.

But I’d rather be…
On a beach! Damn this Atlanta air is chilly! Who knew? Isn’t the south supposed to be warmer than this??

My most prized possessions are…
The clothes on my back and the shoes on my feet. I never had alot growing up so I never really got into having much “stuff,” but I have a couple scotch glasses from my grandfather that mean alot to me.

But I’d give it all away for…
Some slightly nicer clothes and shoes?? Hahaha

The first thing I do in the morning is…
Figure out where I am; then I like to make a couple boiled eggs and toast. It’s probably the only thing I like to do on the regular.

The last thing I do at night is…
Depends on whether I’m alone or not!

My momma always said…
Be nice to your brothers and sister. I’m getting better at that.

I love it when people…
Are vulnerable, let down their walls and show you who they are.

I hate it when people…
Get more caught up in the scene than the music.

If you ever see me walking down the street…
DON’T start a fight with me! That was JUST something that happened in a video I did! I’m not actually looking to fight you!

My most notable run-in with the law…
Some fun times at the boarder. I was pulled into this big garage thing with no windows and questioned and searched hard. One guard pulled a scrap of paper with lyrics out of my wallet and thought it was some sort of code. I thought I was headed to Guantanamo for a minute there.

If I had to say sorry it would be because…
I’m Canadian and that’s just what we do. It’s kind of true. We apologize for everything, even if it’s not our fault. It’s a bit messed up.

I get real aggro when…
People won’t shut up in the movie theater. Its like on the level of road rage. I HATE it.

The last time I swore I’d never drink was after a night of…
Shout-vomiting. It’s not pretty. I was celebrating a Superbowl victory and don’t really remember much after a certain point.

Future projects and plans…
I don’t think much more than the next step in front of me. I know I want to get this record finished, get it out and keep getting my music to more and more people. Once I do that, I think I’ll disappear for a little while.

And before I leave I’d like to give a shout out to…
All the artists who helped make this mixtape happen: Black Milk, Wale, Dallas Austin, Saukrates, MIMS, Mickey Factz, Skyzoo, Novel, Blaqstarr, Joell Ortiz, Drake and Izza Kizza.

Black Milk-Tronic
Fatbeats Records
Rating: 4 out of 4
By:Preach Jacobs

Ever since the emergence of Motown records, Detroit has been one of the Mecca’s of black music. The genre of hip-hop is no different providing some of the most talented groups and producers in recent memory. Within the past three years, Black Milk has been one of the leaders of the Detroit hip-hop movement, and continues with his third solo release titled “Tronic.”

If there’s anyone that’s taken the baton and ran with it since Jay Dilla passed, then it has to be Black Milk as he channels the late producer from drum patterns, flow to cadence. Songs like “Losing Out” featuring Royce Da 5’9 is an incredible display of Milk as producer and rapper.

The song is impressive to say the least, and the instrumental outro leading to the next song is remarkable. With arrangements like these, it’s not a surprise that he’s been snatched up by Dr. Dre’s Aftermath camp to help produce projects in the near future. Songs like “Tronic Summer” and “The Matrix,” featuring excellent verses from Pharoahe Monch as well as Sean Price proving that great beats do bring the best out of artists.

“Tronic” could have easily been called “Return of the Boom-Bap” as the hard-hitting production made famous in the mid-nineties runs rampant through the entire duration of the album.
With the near year on the horizon, it could be safe to say that “Tronic” will be on the best-of-list when looking back at the albums released in 2008. You want my advice? Get this album and turn the volume up loud, but before that make sure you have a neck brace.

Fat Ray & Black Milk

The Set Up

Music House

Rating: 2/4

The thing about all the dudes coming outta Detroit over the last couple of years is that a lot of them flaunt bangin’ Dilla-influenced beats but fall short on the vocals. Black Milk’s solo work has been strong on the production tip, but hardly essential from a lyrical point of view, and this team-up with some random kid with Fat Ray for a handle does nothing to change that assessment. To his credit, Milk delivers some of his hardest tracks yet for The Set-Up (“When It Goes Down” and “Flawless” spring to mind), and both he and the big guy deliver energetic performances…just don’t ask me to quote anything they said, if you know what I mean. Seriously, I can’t recall a single line these guys spit and I have this shit playing as I write this! Not to imply that everyone has to be super-lyrical to make a good rap album, as a larger-than-life “character” will win over an overly verbose bore any day of the week, but there’s nothing here that qualifies as either. It boils down to a couple of mediocre MCs over some above-average drums. This doesn’t matter on songs like “Lookout,” which sounds like a cross between Defender and early Timbaland and is especially effective after half a bottle of scotch, but elsewhere you’ll be clambering for the skip button. The usual Motor City suspects drop by (Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, Elzhi), but they do little to alleviate the monotony. At ten tracks plus an outro, there are only really three tracks that are worthy of your iPod (or Zune if you’re a sadomasochist), which is pretty much the standard these days but that doesn’t make it right, does it?

Hello my name is…
I got so many different names that people know me by. One Be Lo aka One Man Army, born Raland Scruggs aka Nahshid Sulaiman. Some people who have known me for years read interviews sometimes and don’t even know that it’s me.

I was raised in…
I was born and raised in Pontiac, Michigan, just north of Detroit.

The reason that you’re reading about me is…
I make music that not only hip-hop fans need to hear, but anybody who can appreciate good music. I talk about a lot of things that almost anybody can relate to.

Right now I’m working on…
I’m in a zone right now, I got so many producers and projects that I’ working on right now. I guess the goal is to have enough material so when I run out of shit to say, I can still dig into my library and put out records. Kinda like Tupac records coming out years after his death.

But I’d rather be…
I can’t think of anything that I would rather be doing right now. Being an artist is not something I want or even choose to do, it’s just who I am. No matter what I’m doing, beats are playing in my head, thoughts are racing and I gotta write something down. Sometimes I gotta tear up boxes, write on receipts, napkins, whatever I can write on to get that thought out. And I don’t feel right until it’s recorded. I can’t wait to get back to the States so I can get a MBox for my laptop so I can record on-the-go.

My most prized possessions are…
When I think of prized possessions, I think about the things that I own that I couldn’t do without. That would have to be my cell phone and maybe my laptop. I gotta be able to communicate. Next would be my studio gear, and then my shoes, and then my hats. Some people buy souvenirs—I like to buy shoes and hats in every city.

But I’d give it all away for…
If I could get unlimited studio time and unlimited access to the internet, I could get by. I guess I could give away all my shoes and hats for new ones, same thing with the phone.

The first thing I do in the morning is…
Wash my hands, my face, my arms up to the elbows, my head and my feet.

The last thing I do at night is…
That depends…

My momma always said…
“I don’t care if people like me or not!”

I love it when people…
Show love or at least consideration for other people and their realities. Whether it be lifestyle, beliefs, feelings or whatever. I think you have to allow people to be who they are. Even if they have to change, they gotta change on their own.

I hate it when people…
I hate when I’m in the studio and somebody who has nothing to do with the creative process is there distracting everybody else. I guess they don’t look at it like it’s work, but it is.

If you ever see me walking down the street…
I must be headed somewhere important, because I don’t walk unless I have to.

My most notable run-in with the law…
November 18th, 1994 when they ran in my friend’s house while we were watching
rap videos and arrested us for armed robbery.

If I had to say sorry it would be because…
It’s probably because somebody sincerely had a misunderstanding so maybe I needed to clear something up.

I get real aggro when…
The first thing that comes to mind is that rainbow pinwheel of death on my MacBook. Other than that, I try not to let anything affect me in that way.

The last time I swore I’d never drink was after a night of…
It’s been so long, I can’t even remember.

Future projects and plans…
I’m working on so many things right now, most of these projects don’t even have names set in stone. But in the near future I do plan on releasing a project called “Baby (Being a Black Youth)” and “Life (Lo is for Everybody).” I’m collabing with a few producers as well, like Bean One—we got a project almost finished and I think we’ll call it “The Ones and Only.” I’m also working on a project with Black Milk and another one with Jake One. Stay tuned.

And before I leave I’d like to give a shout out too:
I wanna give a big shout out to anybody who has supported me in the past, present and future. I would be irrelevant without these people.
