You might not know what you’re going to get at a King Khan & BBQ Show but you know you’re going to have a good time. Between two chubby men rocking turbans, ill-fitting cocktail dresses, day-glo wigs, and raunchy but soulful guitar riffs, no concert-goer is left unhanded.
The genius of Khan is that he will forever invent and re-invent himself, until perhaps he will eat the tail of his former alias Blacksnake. Whether in his first major success, The Spaceshits, or next level domination with King Khan and the Shrines, rock and roll will never die in this man’s soul.
Thongs, bras and scarves flew threw the battlefield the central pit had become. Beer bottles erupted in geyser-fashion. King Khan and Mark “BBQ” Sultan summoned the demons of mosh, and the power of Eddie Vedder as more than one fan took a stage dive. “We prefer that you don’t jump on stage,” they said, “ not because we hate you but because we’re just not sure of what you might do.” This didn’t stop one adoring fan from planting a full frontal kiss on the lips from an adoring fan, aptly during “ I Love You So”. Khan’s energy was noticeably lifted for the rest of the song; to heroic levels even, as he strummed away in a blissful, near post-coital, swagger.
