Last week etnies in collaboration with designer Eve Lowey and her Studio Chameleon Design Firm, and La Casa Del Camino Hotel held a media day to reveal etnies’ skateboarding themed room.Taking inspiration from their roots, the room reflects the brand’s dedication to skateboarding from the very first time you step into the room.
The floor and the wall are both constructed with 100% sustainable and non-toxic materials such as recyclable New Zealand wooden injected with a green sub-product for additional strength, Sunflower Seeds Stalk was used to create the custom desk and shelving held together with a water-based glue. Serving as the headboard is a 6′ x 11′ gigantic multi-colored mosaic made up of shoe material scraps that etnies uses in its research and design process. All the design highlights and materials were are donated from various vendors in a effort to make a truly one of a kind experience.
Some of the more noticeable features in the room will be surely be the favorites of any guest. etnies and Eve successfully created to the make the room as user friendly as possible. The Skate-Free Mini Bar consist of four complete boards so guest can roll around Laguna Beach, although its a awesome idea I would definitely would be worried about them getting them ripped off. Another heavily skateboard feature is the sink in the bathroom, which is designed after the iconic Chicken Pool in Orange County, the first privately built skate pool specifically for skateboarding. If that wasn’t enough cool for you, etnies provided four fingerboards for a nice sink session, a motion sensitive LCD that plays etnies production, a an iPod featuring the best skate video songs from the past twenty-years that you can enjoy while sitting in the Skate Study House Godfather chair looking at the ocean view.
Even though I was there to check out the etnies room (thanks Ashton, Don and Brenda) I did pop into a few of the suites created by Billabong Mens and Women’s, Quiksilver, Roxy, L’Space, Rip Curl, Lost, Glaceau and Riviera Magazine. Everybody did a wonderful job with their respective projects and yes, the project rooms are going to be more expensive than a regular room, it will be worth it.
