“Lace, whipped cream and silk sheets.” If you like the way that sounds, you may want to check out NY-based DJ Treasure Fingers, who likes to use that scintillating combination of words to describe his music. Signed to Fool’s Gold and from Atlanta, Treasure Fingers credits “everything” as his influence but adds that early ’80s funk, especially Prince and Zap Roger, has molded him most.
Recently, Treasure Fingers has produced a steady stream of fun and funky dance remixes with the likes of Empire of the Sun, Miike Snow, Kid Sister, Chromeo and Estelle, among many others. In addition to more upcoming remixes (one with N.A.S.A.), he’s also working on a mix album that will be out in the fall as well as an EP and full-length of originals that will be out next year.
Quite the hustler, Treasure Fingers doesn’t have too much down time. He has a ridiculously busy tour schedule which, he says, seems to build more gradually each month. “I’ve learned how to put my life on my laptop and how to pack efficiently,” he says. “If I’ve got my laptop and my music, I can make it anywhere.”
His top cities to play in include Denver, Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles, crediting LA as his second home. (For the record, he says LA parties harder than NY.)
Quite the social media enthusiast, Treasure Fingers’ fans can keep up with his music and whereabouts at his blog, MySpace, Facebook or Twitter pages. “I’ve always said I probably wouldn’t be here without the internet,” he laughs, adding that he often uses Twitter for feedback on his shows. “It’s instant gratification,” he adds. His nearly 4,000 followers may agree, but others may get their satisfaction from his whipped cream and silk sheets.
