The chunky wah guitar and blaring horns of “It’s A Feeling,” by St. Maarten’s the Rolling Tones, wouldn’t sound out of place on a classic James Brown album, while the Latin funk of Juan Formell Y Los Van Van “A Ver Que Sale” isn’t far removed from Santana’s trippy ’70s output. Though one or two of the collection’s later tracks border on mediocrity, overall this treasure trove of unearthed Caribbean soul classics is a crate-digger’s dream come true.
