Inverse serves as the ambassadors to the “New West Movement” with So Far (The Collection). Sometimes being a part of a movement can be detrimental to one’s success, however, this is not the case with the duo of Tunji and Toby. Freshly chopped beats and “real life” lyrics keep these guys afloat in the vast sea of up and coming artists that make up the New West. So Far (The Collection), is just that, a collection; solid rhymes accompanied by dope beats, but safe at times. Thankfully, though safe, the collection is still dope and gives the listener a reason to rejoice for the future of West Coast music. Coincidently, the album opens in such fashion. The hard hits of the piano keys accompanied by the soulful strings of Yoel, paint a vivid picture of hip-hop at its finest. Serving as an online-only prelude to their forthcoming full-length debut, Long Day’s Journey, Inverse has begun their growth spurt on a good note. Though Tunji shines throughout, Toby is sometimes masked behind the stellar production and guest appearances (Trek Life, Tatyana Ali). Nevertheless, opposites attract (No Paula). So Far stamps Inverse’s ticket to success as well as making the duo a definite force to be reckoned with in ’08.
