While in NYC last week (thanks to Nike Sportswear), I caught up with my old friend Curtis Kulig. After indulging in some $5 lattes (no homo; and what’s up with $10 smokes and $5 lattes in NY?), we walked over to Seventh Avenue to check out the new Banksy exhibit. Rather than make a million bucks doing a gallery show (as he did in LA), instead Banksy created a fake pet store filled with ironic jabs. Everyone says it’s to make us contemplate our relationship with animals, but you might also try digesting it yourself. That’s right, think.
Many of the pieces were animatronic processed meats, whether squirming hot dogs in reptile tanks or Chicken McNuggets pecking at dipping sauce as a hen roosted nearby. There was also a monkey watching some monkeys fucking while eating on TV, which I thought was kinda cliche but still funny. Then there were some chameleons that’d changed color to match graffiti on the wall, a rabbit doing its lipstick… Check out the pics after the jump.
I wasn’t bowled over or anything, but it was still an interesting place to visit. Check it out if you’re around. I also found this flattened rat on the sidewalk, which I thought was a bit more artsy. Yeah, those are vintage Nike Wovens.
Most photos by Curtis.
