WHUT?! You have to listen to this early ’80s rap, Futura backed by The Clash. Slideshow of Futura’s art is rad, and the song almost sounds like a Blondie track from that era.
This is stolen in its entirety from one of my favorite sites, lostinasupermarket.com. Bookmark that ish.
If you’re into electronic music you’ll know Futura’s work from his illustration and design work for Mo’ Wax and James Lavelle’s UNKLE project. His work with Lavelle pretty much defined UNKLE’s aesthetic. If you’re a sneaker head no doubt he’s an icon for his graffiti work and the infamous Nike SB Dunkle shoe. Guy went All City years ago. And, of course there’s the whole collectible toys thing. No big introduction needed here. Same with the Clash—this website’s name was inspired by the band. What you might now know is that Futura’s design work was pretty much kicked off with the Clash, producing a sleeve for their “Radio Clash” 7-inch, as well as handwriting the sleeve notes and lyrics sheet for their ’82 LP, Combat Rock, which featured Futura doing guest vocals on “Overpowered by Funk.” Futura also put out “The Escapades Of Futura 2000″ featuring the Clash. New York kicked ass in the ’80s. Enjoy the video people.
On a not completely unrelated note, the name Futura 2000 was futuristic in the 80s, but it now reminds me of the Conan O’Brian skit ‘In the year 2000′.
